The rustle of
the trees. Is it just the wind playing with
nature’s offshoots, or is it a four legged
wonder practicing the art of stealthy movement.
The sudden agitation of the birds. Is it just
their characteristic exuberance or is it a combined
note of caution.
The days and nights at Fringe Ford Estate are
filled with sounds of the wild. If one morning
you discover that a friendly tusker had dropped
in for a visit, another day might show you the
pug marks of a leopard.
Surrounded as it is by premier Wildlife sanctuaries,
Fringe Ford Estate has a regular inflow of animal
guests.
While Bonnet Macaque Macaca radiata is principally
found near human inhabitations, carnivore species
like Tiger Panthera Tigris(E), Leopard P. Pardus(V),
Sloth Bear Melursus Ursinus(I), Wild Dog Cuon
Alpinus(V), Jackal Canis Aureus and also possibly
Indian Fox Vulpes Bengaleusis are often found
in the less frequented areas of the estate.
Elephants Elephas Maximus(E), migrate through
Fringe Ford Estate during both monsoon. There
is a resident population of Gaur Bos Gaurus(V)
and an abundance of Black Naped Hare Lepus Nigricollis.
Other herbivores include Sambar Cervus Unicolor,
Spotted Deer Cervus Axis and Indian Muntjac
Muntiacus Muntjac.
Despite heavy poaching pressure, Wild Boar
Sus Scrofa is relatively abundant, and Giant
Squirrel Ratufa Indica is also present.
You are advised of course not to disturb the
sunbathing Python.
