Welcome
to Wyanad. A land, which as the bird flies, is
not from Calicut, the busy Kerala city of the
Zamorins. A quiet place where scenic beauty, wildlife
and tradition still matter. Where simplicity is
a virtue and beauty still blossoms from the mountainous
horizons and from the green glaze of alluring
vegetation.
A notified part of the Niligiri Biosphere Reserve,
Wyanad is the crowning glory of the Malabar Rain
Forest. So you have between heights of 700 to
2100 mts adove mean sea level, a vast expanse
of lush green; where the breeze carries unmistakably
spicy messages. Where mist clad mountains play
hide and seek with nature lovers, where the salubrious
climate is showered with 5000 to 7000 mm of rainwater
blessings.
Named after the Wayals, which means marshes,
it is here in the land of Swamps, that the Britishers
opened up the plateau for the cultivation of
coffee, tea and other cash crops, in celebration
of the rich bio-diversity of the region. It
is here, in the midst of the high traffic tourist
zones of Udhagamandalam(ooty), Mysore, Coorg,
Kozhikode, Kannur and Bekal that a savvy old
British planter set up the FRINGE FORD ESTATE
in the year 1912.
Over a thousand acres of pristine beauty. Where
an infinity of Cardamom plants are sprinkled
liberally with Pepper. Where Vanilla is served
with a hint of lemon grass. Where Coffee is
the acknowledged ingredient in any magic brew.
A 600 acre tract, in the near hundred year
old estate has been earmarked for development
of exclusive 10 acre mini-estates.
